4 Reasons You Should Start A Podcast Today

One way to be successful is to find out where the world is going and to be one of the first people to get there.

The part of 'finding out' may require expertise but there is a hack; look at where smart people or companies are heading and be a fast follower.

One Of The Places Smart Companies Are Heading

Instead of making claims, I would let the headlines speak for themselves:

Apple Unveils Podcast Subscription and a Redesigned Apple Podcast App - Techcrunch | April 20, 2021

Podcasts Start Coming to Facebook Next Week - The Verge | June 16, 2021

Spotify Bought Joe Rogan for $100 million. Now SiriusXM is Buying Stitcher for $325 million. - Forbes | July 13, 2020

And Africa is not left out. Just recently, MTN (one of Africa's largest telecommunication companies) announced that it would be launching a podcast platform named Audapp soon. Podcasting and more broadly audio is the newest battleground in media and big companies are betting on it with large sums. The best time to start a podcast was yesterday. The next best time is NOW.

Reasons You Should Start A Podcast Today

  1. Career Prospects: In 2016, it didn't make sense to pursue a career in YouTube. Today, many are making millions as YouTube creators. In like manner, it doesn't make sense (financially) to pursue a career in podcasting in 2021 (especially in Africa). However, my bet is that in a few years, it will. And as history has shown, joining the right platform early on provides huge rewards. I do not think that podcasting will be the exception!

  2. Networking Opportunity: Personally, by leveraging my podcast platform, I have been able to meet and speak with amazing people from different parts of Africa. These are people that I would not have met otherwise. Podcasting affords you the opportunity not only to meet people but also to connect with them.

  3. Non-Podcasting Job Opportunities: Getting a great job is competitive. Not only are you expected to prove that you are a good fit for a role, but you must also prove that you are better than other candidates. Podcasts (like blogs) can give you an edge. For one, you can add it to your CV. It serves as proof to prospective employers that you have mastered an array of skills e.g communication, research, promotion, etc. In addition, it provides a good opportunity to prove your mastery of a particular field.

  4. Content Marketing: According to The Content Marketing Institute, content marketing is: ...a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action. Companies both large and small are beginning to truly understand the power of stories. And podcasting is a very cheap way to tell and distribute stories to a large number of people. Multinationals like Microsoft and Mcdonalds have a podcast. Closer to home, we have Paystack, an African payment company that was acquired by Stripe.

In addition to the advantages of audio as a medium of communication, podcasting is generally a virgin territory devoid of fierce competition.
